The Crichton's of Paisley

My Great Grandparents, Lawson Crichton, born May 18, 1832, and Isabella Morgan, born March 20, 1830, married on November 30, 1855. They had eight children including Annie Crichton, born June 29, 1857. Annie was my Grandmother.

The Crichton's pictured above in 1948, are the children of Joseph4 Crichton, b. November 17, 1860, who married Mary McDonald, b.1859, on June 8, 1883. They had ten children. Joseph4 was one of Annie Crichton's brothers. Pictured L-R back row are: Thomas Crichton, (possible his wife Maggie Farrell), Joseph5 Crichton, and Robert Crichton. Front row: Agnes Crichton, Jean Crichton, Isabelle Crichton and Ann Crichton.

Lawson  Crichton and Jane Kilpatrick are pictured on their Golden Wedding Anniversary on June 14, 1928, on George Kilpatrick Crichton's front porch in Herrin, Ill. Lawson was Annie Crichton's brother, making him my great uncle. He and Jane were married in Paisley, Scotland on June 14, 1878, and eventually immigrated to the United States and settled in Herrin, Ill.

Recently Stuart Crichton, AU., came across a biography of George K. Crichton on a web site belonging to Pam Rietsch, and emailed me the link. With permission, I've included this bio on this web site because it's very interesting and part of our family history. I'd like to thank Pam for posting the bio, Stuart for finding it, and Susan Dorris for her hard work in transcribing many historical biographies from the book, "The History of Southern Illinois", written by George Washington Smith. Please go to my Links page to find links to Pam's site and to USGenNet.org, a free site dedicated to providing historical research.

New:

We have something very special for all Crichton's who are interested in their heritage. I recently became aware of a manuscript written by Patrick Crichton in 1819. The manuscript  was written as a series of letters to his son Sir Archibald William Crichton who added one of two amendments. The "book" tells the story of Patrick's ancestors as best he could research the subject. You'll see some parallels between this story and the history presented on my History page.

This manuscript came to my attention through a gentleman who's grandfather had the document with his important processions. My contact placed the document on eBay. I contacted Jos Grupping in Holland because I knew he had contacts who could appraise the document to determine its worth. The document was acquired and is presented here for a couple of reasons. First, the obvious historical value to Crichton decedents and second, because as you will read in the story, Patrick Crichton asked his sons to pass the manuscript from father to son so that his decedents can learn about their history. We reach thousands of Crichton decedents through this website. If we can help Patrick accomplish his wishes, then I feel that is a good thing to do. I hope you enjoy this story and maybe you can find information that will help you grow your family tree. Click here to read Patrick Crichton's chronicle.

For the past several months I've been attempting to find the first "Lawson" in the family. With the help of a lot of people who have been supplying me with information, we think we have found him. If we are correct, he's been under our noses all along. He's Lawson William Crichton, the son of George Crichton and Elizabeth Lawson. We do not have solid evidence of this as yet but we're pretty sure he married Isabella White abt. 1830. I'm putting a narrative type Report in .PDF format on the site. If you have any documentation supporting or disproving this, please contact me via e-mail.

I hope your visit is helpful and interesting.
